Washington Apple and Pear Growers Invest $27 Million

The late, world-renowned mycologist Charles Gardner Shaw served Washington State University for 36 years in the Department of Plant Pathology. The university’s mycological herbarium will be dedicated in his name in a public ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, in the first floor foyer of Vogel Plant Biosciences Building on Stadium Way. Ensminger Pavilion Renovated Thanks to Your Gifts

Students and faculty gathered for the annual Back to School Picnic, ca. 1950.
Built in 1933, this building was known for decades as the Livestock Judging Pavilion. Thousands of animal science students have taken classes in the pavilion while archaeology students once practiced excavation techniques in one wing. But the pavilion has always been much more than a classroom.
In its heyday, the pavilion hosted a variety of events. Old photos show crowds of 800 attending the Livestock Feeders’ Day outside the building in 1945.
Bing Crosby once attended a livestock judging event at the pavilion when his twin sons were briefly students at WSU in the early 1950s. Read more »

Merial Limited was recognizied for its extraordinary contributions to the animal sciences at Washington State University. Named a Benefactor of the university, a plaque in recognition of Merial Limited’s contributions was presented to Dr. Stewart Bauck, executive director of IGENITY Livestock Production Business Unit, on October 17, 2007. Raising the Barr

Washington State Senator Barr has contributed generously to the WSU 4-H Foundation.
Among the many distinguished people who have served on the 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees over the past 45 years, one person stands out.
Washington State Senator Scott Barr was elected to the 4-H Foundation Board in 1972, and provided 26 years of dedicated volunteer service, six of those years as board vice president. He was named an Honorary Trustee in 1998 and still holds that title today. Read more »
